January 24th. We have arrived at last, and after some monstrous bug caught on the plane over from Ireland, we begin to recover and settle. On a walk out to BHV yesterday to buy resin glue to repair a broken piece of parquet flooring, I notice the frequency of abandoned beggars’ hats. Often they contain only one coin as an incentive to give more, and there are piles of suitcases outside phone boxes with no one to guard them.I can make nothing of it all in my half delirious state of mind, nor the mood of the city, after the recent Hebdo attacks, so conveniently hijacked by politicians. We will find out more, when the walking begins in earnest alongside perambulation without purpose. SC
