Who but the Italians on their twenty cent coins would put anything as interesting and totally celebratory as Boccioni’s Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, from 1913 ? The rest flounder in tourism and are not sure if the whole of coinage is a promotion exercise or the acquisition some kind of souvenir. Of course the Irish must have a Harp. The Brits if they were in it, would have to have a Queen!I have a growing collection of these blu-tacked along a shelf back home, so it’s clear I think they are souvenirs! This winter sojourn I have only found five, which is remarkable, since my literalist state of mind suggests that there should be more since we’re closer to Italy than we would be in Ireland. SC
